LAMDA
LAMDA exams are a brilliant launchpad for any budding performer or any student who is looking to gain a little bit of confidence in the realm of public speaking. We offer tuition in Solo Introductory exams (for our youngest learners), Acting and Musical Theatre, empowering your child to shine in their own way and offering them a platform to unleash their talent and passion. Learning in a group setting for a solo exam has so many benefits, the main one being learning and growing from your peers. It takes a great deal of skill to learn from others, a skill that is directly transferable into your child's every day life. `
LAMDA qualifications are recognised world-wide and can be included on a CV, senior school application/scholarship and can even earn UCAS points for entry to university or similar. Some of the many benefits of studying LAMDA are increased confidence, improved physicality of speech and language and enhanced communication and conversational skills.
Introductory exams are the perfect start for young learners. By learning the words of a fun poem from the likes of Michael Rosen and Valerie Bloom our Introductory learners are developing the ability to express themselves clearly while also improving their memorisation and recall.
Not only that, they are also gaining in self-confidence as they talk about the things they love, like their favourite toy, place or book. These conversations encourage our learners to feel at ease with answering questions, listening and using description.
LAMDA GRADED EXAMS (AGE 8+)
Our Musical Theatre learners develop their acting skills through song. They use vocal techniques to convey the right mood, and engage with the material to form a thoughtful interpretation of the song. As they progress through the grades, learners explore characterisation through monologues, which are performed in character and act as an introduction to their songs. They’ll also deepen their understanding of the history of musical theatre by performing songs from a range of eras, and by researching the work and influence of one of its composers or lyricists.
Our Acting Exam learners develop their vocal, physical and interpretive skills while they delve into characters and explore the background of dramatic texts. Alongside producing authentic performances of their chosen scenes, they also gain an understanding of the context and characters within them. Working through the grades takes our learners through the development of clear speaking and character portrayal to an understanding of a playwright’s style, the influence of theatre practitioners such as Stanislavski and a sensitive appreciation of subtext.
THE EXAM - UPDATED FOR 2024 EXAM SEASON

September - December - Group skills building, working together as a group to form a presentation for parents just before Christmas.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
"My daughter has loved these workshops! The size of the group isn’t too big, meaning each child gets attention and they work well as a team. Having done nearly a year at another well known group, we were disappointed at the lack of real opportunity to act and sing and have a speaking part. Every child at Popcorn has equal opportunity to shine. Highly recommended."
